In Bogotá my wife and I went on a hike to the top of Monserrate. We didn't do much research, and it ended up being 1.8 miles of straight up stairs lol. The top of Monserrate is over 10,000 feet in elevations, and it rewards those who make it with the most breathtaking views of Bogotá. The vast urban sprawl is truly awe inspiring, with urban cityscape expanding into the horizon highlighting the immense size of the city, which holds nearly 8 million people as of 2023 when we were there.
Monserrate itself is a mountain sacred to the people of Colombian, and it's special history dates back to the Pre-Colombian Era. On top of the mountain is a imacculate large church that has a shrine devoted to El Señor Caído, or The Fallen Lord. It was incredible to walk such a historic and sacred trail and see the immense structures built on top of it.
